Sprinkler Blowout

Sprinkler blowout, also known as winterization, is the process of evacuating all of the water from your irrigation system to prevent damage caused by freezing water. The main piece of equipment used for this type of work is a professional-grade air compressor.

Not all air compressors are created equal. Many homeowners do attempt to blowout their systems with store-bought air compressors, only to find that the process can take up to ten times as long, with expensive consequeces. These products do not create the constant air flow needed to guarantee all the water is cleared, which then freezes and expands inside the system pipes, causing them to crack.

With Advantage Irrigation, we begin the process of winterization by shutting off the water off that supplies the irrigation system. We then hook up a hose from our large air compressor and blow a powerful stream of air through the lines, which, in turn, pushes the water out. Finally, we power down the irrigation controller. This is done in the Fall, before the freeze of Winter arrives.
